Walking Tour through the vines of Barolo, the cobble stone streets of Turin and the mountain tops in the Alps..taking in the culinary delights of Piedmont

Day 1: Rendezvous in Turin in the afternoon/evening meeting as a group at hotel foyer at 6pm. Evening walk through Turin taking an apperitivo (small finger foods with spritz/wine/beer) before dinner at a small hole in the wall restaurant serving a very modern take on the Piedmont cuisine.
Day 2: Being that Turin is home to some of the oldest chocolate houses in the world it’s imperative that we commence the morning with a guided chocolate tasting at one of Italian and in fact the worlds most acclaimed Artisan chocolate producers. Lunch will be at renowned Eataly, a food museum of all Italians culturally significant foods all under one roof, and a great place to pick up a few Italian goods to bring home. After lunch we well head for the hilltop village of Monforte D’alba which will be our base for the next 3 nights. We will arrive directly to a well renown Barolo producing family for a tasting a look at their most impressive cantina. Your luggageYour accommodation will be in comfortable central apartments with fab views and breakfast included. Once settled we will take late afternoon walk through the cobblestone streets of this UNESCO village before an apperitivo and dinner at a most unusual wine bar.
Day 3: This morning you may opt for a short pre breakfast walk and swim at the local resort style pool. A warning though not to eat much for breakfast this morning as today we will spend the day wandering 4 km through some of the most famous Barolo vineyards eating and drinking along the way on the famous Mangia Longa walk of La Morra, another of the hilltop villages in the Barolo zone. This yearly event has been running now for 20 years and sees a pilgrimage of foodies walking, singing eating drinking and dancing together for the day. Be prepared to be one of the locals embraced and initiated into the world of Barolo. If the appetite allows we will conclude the day with an appericena at a wine bar in the Piazza of Monforte.
Day 4: After breakfast we will be walking through the vines to Roddino, stopping along the way for a visit to one of the most prestigious wine producers. Here we will spend time with the family as they talk you through their wines, their philosophies and their family’s stories all while tasting your way through their current wine releases. Lunch today will be a degustation of flavours from this region prepared from a young chef and his mum with food sourced mostly from their small farm. No hurry here lunch will be a good few hours! Our afternoon walk back through the vines will pass by a cheese producer and some of the most valuable cru vineyards in the Barolo zone home to Gaya Wines arriving at the village of Serralunga for an apperitivo. You may opt for a transfer after lunch back to hotel should you require a few hours of laying horizontal instead. Tonight we will dine under the stars at the local Pizzeria specialising in not just pizza but also Sardinian specialties for something a little different.
Day 5: After breakfast we will commence our day with a truffle hunt with our local guide Gigi and his truffle hound in search of the black summer truffles in the bushlands. Taking our found (or bought) truffles with us we are off to a wine tasting and cantina visit before we have lunch where the chef will prepare our truffles for us to consume with handmade fresh pasta. After lunch we will head off to the Castlemango region where our base will be a small mountain top village that has been recently renovated with staying in stone cottages with incredible views of the Maritime Alps. Once settled we will take a gentle walk to see the mountains side open air milking of the cows that produce the famous Castelmango Alpegio Cheese. Which has a 400 yr old history of production for the Kings and Queens. Tonight we will eat at the Refugio eating traditional gnocchi, polenta with all the other sides of traditional mountain food. Get a good night’s sleep in the fresh air as we have a big walk in the morning.
Day 6: An early morning start will have those keen hikers take on the Cresta del Balou and the Colle della Margerita a 4-5 hour loop walking the ridge of the alps. All this walking will build a healthy appetite and arriving at lunch we will sit down to a gourmet long lunch at one of the most remote restaurants in Italy. This afternoon will be time to relax and take in the serenity of the mountains. Dinner will be picnic style under the stars.
Day 7: A sleep in is on the cards this morning. This morning we will meet the cheese maker and have him guide us through the process of creating the famous Castelmango Alpegio Cheese, including seeing the caves where the cheese is ageing and off course tasting the different stages of the maturing cheese. After the tour it is time to pack up as the driver will arrive at 11am to provide transfers back to the city of Turin for you to continue on your travels.
